About Us

The GFAS was founded in July 1960 at the St John's Ambulance Hall, following a visit to the island by Mary Pope who had founded the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies ("NAFAS") in the previous year. Despite witnessing unimaginable technological and social changes over the ensuing 50 years, the Society continues to thrive, demonstrating our deep rooted affection for "Floral Art".
Daphne Prins was elected first President in 1960, heading a succession of enthusiastic and commendable volunteers who have seen the Society grow to its present vibrant status within the Island. During this half century, "home" for local events has moved from the Ambulance Hall, via the Royal Hotel, to St James Concert Hall, which is Guernsey's premier cultural venue, to where we are currently based since March 2016, Les Cotils, St Peter Port, Guernsey.
Also during this half century, GFAS has followed the ideas of NAFAS by supporting local Horticultural Shows, decorating churches and chapels, holding Christmas shows, raising funds for local charties, exhibiting internationally (including the Chelsea Flower Show and Westminster Abbey) to name a few.
